Five days since the Met Gala and we still can’t get over the looks. We saw some incredible pieces, but it was one man whose creations stole the show: John Galliano. One can easily argue that this year’s Met Gala was all about Galliano taking over the red carpet. It was somehow predicted that with the Maison Margiela Artisanal Show, John Galliano is here for a long stay. John Galliano’s career has been marked by both creativity and controversy. In the early 2000s, he faced public backlash for making anti-Semitic remarks, which led to his dismissal from Dior in 2011. His troubled past included battles with addiction and personal struggles. However, Galliano underwent a remarkable transformation, seeking rehabilitation and redemption. Anna Wintour was his biggest supporter who always advocated for his comeback. Is it his connection with Anna that his influence was all over the Met, that we can’t tell for sure. What we do know however is his undeniable talent and unique vision. Today we are going through some of John Galliano’s looks at the Met 2024:
- Zendaya wears Maison Margiela artisanal recalling reference from Dior spring/summer ’99 haute couture
Zendaya embraced a full Galliano look in the red carpet; from the corsetry, and bodices. What left everyone speechless was the reference taken from Galliano’s collection back in his days at Dior.
2. Another Zendaya moment wearing the black gown from Galliano’s 1996 Givenchy collection
When the red carpet was coming to an end, Zendaya was there again for another show-stopping look. This time the black gown was a comeback from Galliano’s 1996 Givencht collection, completing the look with a flower hat.
3. Gwendoline Christie in a Maison Margiela Artisanal 2024 full look
It is considered the fashion show of the decade, therefore a full look from the show was expected at the Met. Wore and delivered in the most theatrical form by Gwendoline Christie.
4. Kim Kardashian in a Maison Margiela Artisanal, look from Margiela spring/summer ’24 haute couture
Where there is a fashion statement, there is Kim Kardashian. This time she wore a tight bodice from Margiela artisanal. Garmets made from jewellry as a reference to Dior autumn/winter ’97/’98 haute couture’s were added. And of course, the cardigan as an element seen on Margiela couture runway.
5. Bad Bunny with a look from Maison Margiela spring/summer ’24 haute couture
Bad Bunny stood out as the only man wearing custom Margiela pieces from the same collection at the event.
