Stylisphere Experiences Hotel Kalemi

Preserving Gjirokaster's Past, Elevating its Future

As the saying goes, “In Gjirokaster, one can discover everything they seek”: stunning views, exceptional hospitality, and delectable cuisine. And nestled within this philosophy of Gjirokaster lies Hotel Kalemi, embodying all these qualities and more.

Hotel Kalemi’s journey began in 1991 when it was established as a Guest House. Dragua Kalemi, its visionary owner, with his profound English proficiency, his love for Gjirokaster, and an exceptional vision, conceptualized the idea of transforming an old property into a tourism gem through meticulous renovation and strategic investment. Not many believed in him, but what was once considered a crazy idea, soon became a highlight spot in Gjirokaster, for foreign tourist and Albanians. Kalemi 1 followed the Guest House in 2000 and after that Kalemi 2 in 2014. Last year “Twin” building was opened near Kalemi 2. “Twin” is not yet available in booking, and the rooms are more luxurious and exclusive, but keeping traditions at core. Hotel Kalemi 1 is located in the quiet part of the city, with a wonderful view of the castel. Kalemi 2 is located in the city center. To make our life easier, both Kalemi 1 and 2 offer free parking. You know what a headache it can be finding a free spot in touristy Gjirokaster.

The design of the hotel has preserved the architecture of the historic Otoman-era. Drawing inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of Gjirokaster, the hotel features authentic architectural elements, such as stone walls and wooden beams, evoking a sense of timeless charm. Sleeping in a fully renovated 2nd Category Monument House is an experience in itself, but if you need one more reason to add to it, consider the 200 years old wooden cielings; the most valuable artistic element. “Much claimed from the foreign traders, especially the Greek ones, I never accepted to trade them” confesses Mr. Kalemi, “as there is no price high enough to value our culture” he adds. You can marvel through the history and cultural elements of the hotel, witness the best view from the balcony or enjoy your time in the hotel’s garden.

Kalemi is not simply a hotel, rather a museum of the cultural values and beauty that Gjirokaster holds, putting in life the vission of Mr. Kalemi, who wants to pass it to the other locals, calling them to invest in tourism property.
