Where Wine, Art and Gastronomy Blend Together
Whenever Henry Miller seeked inspiration, he would often go to places renowned for their artistic and natural beauty. During his years in France, he would spend some time in the south of France, particularly the region of Provence, where he could indulge in the local art scene, enjoy the scenic landscapes, and savor the region’s wines.
We don’t claim to possess the brilliance of Miller or the audacity to call ourselves writers. However, as Miller once said of himself, “I am but a man and I want to express myself completely and without constraints.” To recharge, find inspiration, and overcome the limitations imposed by routine, we chose to visit Provence, for an inspiring stay at Château La Coste.
Château La Coste is located in the heart of Provence, near Aix-en-Provence in southern France. The estate covers over 600 acres and features a unique blend of cultural attractions, including art installations, architectural masterpieces, and beautifully landscaped gardens.
The château is a destination where creativity and the natural world harmoniously coexist. Each installation interacts with its environment, creating a dialogue between art and nature. As you meander through the vineyard, you will encounter these remarkable pieces in a variety of settings, from serene wooded areas to open fields and ponds. Intense struggles, featuring a human figure entwined by a snake; a unicorn as a blend of mythological and scientific elements inviting us viewers to explore the boundaries between fantasy and reality; the iconic “Maman” spider of Louise Bourgeois as a tribute to her mother, a symbol of her own resilience, and a powerful image of maternal protection.
Château La Coste featurea a 3 Michelin Star restaurant, Étoilé Hélène Darroze à Villa La Coste. The restaurant is housed in a modern glass pavilion that seamlessly blends with the surrounding vineyards and art installations of the Château La Coste Estate. The menu focuses on the rich and diverse local produce of the region, with vegetables and fruits taking center stage, complemented by meat and fish as supporting elements.
