When You Find The Perfect Home
Everyone has an idea of what their perfect home is. Perhaps a place with good lighting, or one with a garden, some others dream of it as small but cozy. Now, the question arises: What happens when you find the perfect home, but struggle to find the ideal designer to bring your vision to life?
For Sofia Vergara, a star in the “Modern Family” and currently portraying the role of Colombian cocaine queen pin Griselda Blanco, this was not the case. She found her perfect residence a palatial manse in Beverly Park. “There were arches on top of arches, all with columns. It felt like a castle in Transylvania.” Expressing her enthusiasm, she adds, “But the layout was perfect, and I loved that you could see the landscape from every room, even though there wasn’t much of a garden to look at yet. I knew what I would do to make it my own.” Sofia said for AD Magazine.
As for the designer Ohara Davies-Gaetano, believe it or not, Sofia found her on Instagram, a hub where individuals discover both information and inspiration effortlessly. Vergara contacting her immediately, and after meeting and sharing their ideas, they clicked.
For Sofia functionality is key. Every element has to be not only decorative, but also functional. If this is fulfilled, price doesn’t matter, Vergara is ready to invest. Davies-Gaetano and Vergara adorned the house with a diverse selection of continental antiques sourced from Sweden, Spain, France, and Italy. In the airy living room, an 18th-century French limestone fireplace and a delicate Persian Tabriz rug serve as focal points, complemented by a pair of intricately carved, gilded Baroque armchairs beneath a graceful 19th-century Italian chandelier.
In the dining room, Davies-Gaetano embellished the ceiling with a foliate wall covering meticulously hand-embossed with plaster vines and leaves. “Each room boasts unique touches to enhance depth and captivate interest,” remarks the designer. “We particularly emphasized decorative lighting to accentuate the atmosphere and character of the house,” she elaborates for AD Magazine, highlighting the grand Spanish tole chandelier that balances the proportions of the double-height family room and the exquisite Baguès rock crystal sconces adorning a powder room.
Vergara is a monochromatic girl, far from the bold colours. Therefore, the designer had to put colour im the elements. Davies-Gaetano skillfully introduced muted tones through upholstery details, antique carpets, artwork, and subtle accents. For example, in the family room Davies-Gaetano subtly infused the neutral scheme with throw pillows in various shades inspired by the hues of the carpet. Naturally, the most vibrant burst of color in the room emanates from a striking painting by Vergara’s compatriot, the late Colombian artist Fernando Botero, while n antique Spanish chandelier hangs in it.
Sofia was enchanted from the view it could offer and she knew exactly how she would built her garden. The landscape received a vibrant makeover, spearheaded by landscape designer and antiques dealer Stephen Block of LA’s Inner Gardens. No tree is enough in the interior if it ‘not in the exterior. For Stephen you can breathe new life into the property with fresh plantings and an array of distinctive antique urns, fountains, benches, and pots. For Sofia to have something from the birthplace, they also incorporated tropical elements to resonate with Sofia’s heritage.
While Vergara admits she’s not one to cook, she eagerly embraces the chance to entertain, and her new residence was created with that in mind, providing the perfect setting for hosting friends and family in grand fashion.
Sofia is happy and full of gratitude to be leaving in such place. She seems happy, living the life she has always wanted and frankly, we couldn’t be happier for her too.
