Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Southern Albania, the Vuno Rustic & Modern Villa stands as a testament to architectural fusion, seamlessly blending rustic charm with contemporary interior design. Crafted by the renowned Architecture studio APPA Architects, this residential masterpiece embodies a harmonious coalescence of tradition and innovation.
Positioned atop a terraced landscape, the villa commands attention, offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside. Functionality intertwines with elegance as the terrace serves multifaceted roles, from verdant greenery to the swimming pool to a parking space seamlessly integrated with a wine cellar—a nod to the family’s vinicultural heritage.
The villa strives to preserve its primary image and inherited vernacular design. From its inception, a conscious decision was made to honor the traditional typology of villas and construction techniques found in the historic village of Vuno. The villa’s stone construction, adorned with rectangular and arched windows, alongside Venetian wood shutters, pays homage to its rustic roots. Each stone wall, carefully sculpted both inside and out, serves not only as a structural element but also as an integral part of the villa’s aesthetic narrative.
It boasts two distinct veranda floors. The first floor, adorned with a mosaic of ceramic brick from Tuscany and local stone, exudes a rustic yet refined charm. Meanwhile, the second floor, reminiscent of a vintage aesthetic, features square parquet flooring accented by white decorative stones.
Drawing inspiration from the iconic villas of the southern Albanian villages of Vuno, Dhërmi, etc., the Mediterranean architectural journey unfolds, weaving elements of arched parapets with plaster and the strategic use of glass. A commitment to preserving breathtaking views from every angle led to the strategic incorporation of glass, infusing the villa with a sense of openness and luminosity.
Consistency reigns supreme as every aspect of the villa, from stair railings to porch and balcony designs, echoes a cohesive design language. Plastered brick walls and exposed wooden beams give the villa a rustic and functional yet pleasing design that blends well with the golden ornaments and pops of color around the house. Colors play an important role in these spaces, from the façade with mesmerizing turquoise window shutters to the sofa serving as a centerpiece in warm tones of red and purple. The contrast is evident, as is the mix of materials: textiles on wood, glass on metal, stone on marble.
In essence, the Vuno Villa stands not only as a testament to architectural prowess but also as a sanctuary where tradition and modernity intertwine, offering a serene retreat amidst the rugged beauty of Southern Albania’s countryside.
